Welcome to Neotropical Primate Conservation

Neotropical Primate Conservation (NPC) is a registered charity dedicated to the conservation of primates and their habitats in South and Central America. We aim to promote conservation and protect biodiversity in the Neotropics by working in several ways.

About us

Protect, educate, promote, investigate, reforest and rescue

Neotropical Primate Conservation (NPC) was founded in 2007 by a group of friends who shared the same passion for conservation. We began as a non-profit organization and were awarded UK charity status in August of 2009 (Registered Charity number 1131122). In 2014 we expanded with a Peruvian branch and again in 2016 and 2021, opening branches in Colombia and Argentina.

What NPC does

It’s not just about primates...

We use monkeys as flagship species to spearhead conservation efforts, but our work doesn’t only benefit primates. In order for primates to survive in the wild they need a thriving ecosystem, which means our efforts also go towards protecting all the other species of plants and animals that live alongside primates and call the rainforest their home. More significantly, we work with local communities as we believe conservation starts with people. Our projects ensure sustainable access to natural resources for local communities.

Community Conservation

Local communities are key to success in protecting the environment. Our community-based model has led to landscape wide conservation gains.

Forest Protection

We help local people create and manage reserves to protect their natural resources, and in so doing, protect primates, their habitats, and all species.

Animal Rescue

The illegal wildlife trade is driving many species to extinction, and we are on the front lines in the fight against trafficking. We help rescue, care for, and re-home wildlife.

Scientific Investigation

We work with some of the least known species on earth, our investigations provide essential knowledge for conserving these species.

Environmental Education

Generating proper understanding of the need for conservation ensures longevity of our initiatives. We work with adults and children to promote awareness.

Social development

Not only do we try and improve local livelihoods through direct economic means, we also aim to improve quality of life through sustainable projects wherever we work.

Habitat Restoration

Our reforestation and restoration work reclaims habitats for primates as well as providing resources for local communities.

Our publications

We believe that conservation information should be free and easily accessible to the public.

For this reason we make our articles and reports available free of charge and publish in open access journals wherever possible.
